To the editor:
It is with the greatest sorrow that I read in the Feb. 5 Barrington Times of the closing of the Rite Aid Pharmacy in our hometown, Barrington.
You see, I was the opening pharmacy manager. We had no customers — we only had folks whom we valued as friends. We offered a choice — the big, corporate Rx versus a taste of the independent Rx life.
We helped people who needed help when no one else was available. We delivered to the homebound and worked closely with the Chief Nurse of Home and Hospice making sure we had all meds available to ease pain and suffering of those passing heaven-ward.
We listened as tales of loved ones truly amazed up — there was a father hanging on until his daughter made it home from Wyoming in heavy snow… what a joyous reunion that was so peaceful, the daughter came in to thank us. We counseled young people who were addicted to various meds in conjunction with the medical center.
We had many tragedies — on land and in our waters. Barrington EMTs would drop in when they came from some heartbreaking accidents, especially when children and teens were involved.
And so — my beautiful patients, survivors, and their families, since I have been struck with a chronic condition that required my retirement — and to all my special friends who would bring into our pharmacy staff, their special home-made goodies, I wish you all… a fond adieu!
With much sincerity,
Anne M. Moore, RN
