To the editor:
Thank you for re-electing me as your representative to the General Assembly in District 67. I’m grateful for your trust and confidence and I’m ready to continue working for you.
COVID-19 has presented real challenges for the State of Rhode Island. The General Assembly must convene to tackle these challenges and I’m confident that with new leadership in the House of Representatives, we will get to work. I look forward to working on a final budget for the fiscal year and continuing our efforts to overcome the obstacles presented by COVID. Without a doubt, this virus has disrupted nearly every part of our lives, but I know Rhode Island has the strength and resiliency to get through it.
In addition to the pandemic, there is still work to do on issues that are important to all Rhode Islanders. We cannot let up on our efforts to improve the availability of affordable housing. We must continue the work to improve our schools. We have to push to make Rhode Island carbon-free. And we must continue to remove obstacles to the economic success of our citizens and expand access to economic opportunity for everyone.
But that is not enough: we also must acknowledge our failures. I’m appalled at the way COVID-19 raced through our nursing homes. We must look back to determine how this happened and ensure changes are put in place to correct these problems.
America has been through a tough few months with the pandemic. I’m hopeful that the election of President-Elect Joe Biden will help put America on course to seriously fight this pandemic, and I see a better future ahead. I’m glad that we will finally have a partner in the White House who is ready to help Rhode Island do this work.
I’m more excited than ever to be your voice at the Statehouse. Please feel free to contact me anytime, on any issue that you care about at jason@jasonknightri.com.
