What do you do if a bunch of electric scooters are blocking the walkway into a restaurant?

On Monday, Sept. 21, a 14-year-old Barrington boy called police to report that a man had knocked over his electric scooter and his friends’ electric scooters, which they had left outside the Chipotle restaurant on County Road.

Barrington Police responded to the scene at about 1:45 p.m. — there was no school on Monday, Sept. 21 — but the suspect had already left. The boys told police what happened and provided the vehicle’s license plate information.

Police responded to the suspect’s home. The man told police he had finished eating and while exiting the restaurant he noticed the electric scooters blocking the walkway. The man said he moved the e-scooters off the path.

Police told the man he should have brought the issue to the restaurant manager, and that he should not touch other peoples’ property. Police said the manager could have requested the teens to move their scooters off the walkway.

Police said no one was charged.
