Barrington girls set for semifinals against East Greenwich

The Barrington High School girls tennis team will play against East Greenwich in the semifinals of the Division I playoffs. The match is set for Wednesday, Nov. 2. 

The Eagles earned a trip to the semifinals with a win over Mount St. Charles in the quarterfinals. Barrington, the number two seed in the bracket, won all six matches in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

The Eagles’ top singles player, Sonya Pareek, defeated Mount’s Laurel Christensen, 6-0, 6-1. At the number two singles match, Barrington’s Ava Koczera-Kasem defeated Mount’s Lucy Bielecki, 6-2, 6-0. 

The Eagles’ Katie Byon won her match at number three singles, 6-0, 6-1 over Ava Rataic, and at number four singles, Barrington’s Charlotte Danyla defeated Mount St. Charles’s Melissa Reggio, 6-1, 6-1. 

Barrington’s number one doubles team of Sadie Spector and Ava Grant defeated Mount’s Caitlin Belisle and Ashley Plamandon, 6-3, 5-2. And in the number two doubles match, Barrington’s Charlotte Byon and Zeynep Abul defeated Mount’s Caroline Monaco and Olivia Dias, 6-4, 5-2.

The Eagles played East Greenwich once during the regular season, winning 4-3 in a Sept. 20 match. The Avengers are the third seed in the Division I playoffs. 

In the other semifinal match, top-seeded LaSalle will play against Moses Brown.
