Door-to-door solicitations banned in Barrington

Newest executive order outlines updated restrictions, requirements

Posted

Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha signed a new executive order earlier this week that prohibited door-to-door solicitations and updated other restrictions associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

The order, which was signed on June 1, also allows for gatherings in groups of 15 or fewer people, and states that organized youth sports are restricted to "stable groups of 15 or less" and that games against other groups are currently prohibited. The governor has stated in recent press conferences that games could be permitted in the next phase of the state's re-opening.

The manager's most recent order calls for playgrounds and basketball courts to remain closed to the public.

Following are other measures included in the June 1 executive order:

• All Barrington residents are to work from home, if possible.

• For the protection of the community, a face mask or cloth face shield is required except for children under 2 and persons with physical or developmental disabilities that prevent wearing of face coverings. Masks and face coverings should be worn over noses and mouths while inside commercial or municipal buildings and outside when unable to maintain six foot physical distance from individuals outside your household… Masks are not required in vehicles, while exercising or in private residences.

• All businesses are open with restrictions outlined on the RI Department of Business Regulation website.

• All businesses shall post a copy of this notice at the entrance to the premises, as directed by the town manager.

• As has been the case in town, violations of the executive order can lead to a municipal court citation, which is punishable by a fine of up to $500.

The newest executive order remains in effect until June 12.
