Former landfills in Barrington could be home to solar fields in the future.
During the Oct. 4 meeting, members of the Barrington Town Council voted unanimously in favor of having the town’s Resilience and Energy Committee explore the idea of installing solar panels atop some of the capped landfills in town.
The Chianese ball fields were built atop the capped landfills near Prince’s Hill Avenue, and there are two other capped landfills located near Upland Way. During the Oct. 4 meeting, council president Michael Carroll asked other members of the council if they had any interest or appetite in exploring the idea of installing solar panels atop the capped landfills. All four of his colleagues said the idea is worth considering.
Field committee will hold its final meeting
The Ad Hoc Athletic Field Advisory Committee will have its final meeting on Monday, Oct. 18 at the Barrington Middle School presentation room at 7 p.m.
The group was first assembled about two years ago to study the town’s athletic fields and discuss the possibilities of adding an artificial turf field in town. The committee is expected to discuss and approve its final report to the town council and school committee. The meeting is open to the public.
