Barrington parades onto field to cheers from local fans
The Barrington U12 All-Star baseball team and the 15 other teams from across the globe that earned a spot in the Little League World Series celebrated the opening ceremony on Thursday morning, Aug. 15, in front of a large crowd at Volunteer Field in Williamsport, Pa.
Barrington, wearing the New England maroon and blue jerseys and caps, marched onto the field and paraded past home plate — a loud cheer from the Barrington fan-base echoed from the stands.
As expected, players' parents and siblings were spotted waving to the team, but there were also dozens of others from Barrington who made the seven-hour trip to Williamsport.
Team colors for other squads speckled the bleachers, each cheering for their respective teams as they were announced and paraded around the field.
Former Major League Baseball pitching ace and Hall of Famer Randy Johnson threw out the ceremonial first pitch to a catcher from the Australian team.
Barrington was scheduled to play against South Riding, Va. in an opening round game on Thursday at 3 p.m.
