Barrington police: Warren man to blame

Posted

Barrington police responded to an accident in a section of woods along Metropolitan Park Drive at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8.

Residents who live nearby told police they heard a vehicle crash into the woods at Haines Park, but they could not locate the driver.

Police later traced the vehicle to a Warren man. Officials eventually contacted the man on Sunday; the man told police he had too much to drink late Friday night and early Saturday morning and crashed his car while driving home. The man said he then walked along the bike path and later called for an Uber.

Police said that despite the man's confession they could not charge him with DUI because they had not witnessed him driving drunk. Police issued the man a summons for leaving the scene of an accident, damage to highway fixtures, and roadway violations.
