Lardner and Alyce McNellis Lardner. His family moved to Barrington in 1964 where Brian attended the local schools and graduated from Barrington High School in 1980. Brian made friends wherever he went. Once you were a friend of Brian’s you were a friend forever. He had the Irish gift of gab and could converse instantly with everyone he met on any subject. Brian had that personal magnetism that drew people to him.
Brian was a person of many talents. He was a natural athlete and excelled at any activity he undertook. He skied, he snowboarded, he golfed, he biked, he fished, and he ice skated. He also enjoyed watching any team sport or joining any pick-up game. He played ice hockey into his 50s. He had an encyclopedic memory for TV, movie and sports trivia. Brian did the daily jumble and crossword in pen. Brian loved to grow things and had a green thumb. He was a member of a community garden in Edgewood. He was a specialist in growing the hottest peppers. Brian had a life-long curiosity and love of learning about everything.
All of Brian’s nieces and nephews would agree that Brian was the perfect uncle. He attended play performances, concerts and graduations. He went to their soccer, softball, cheerleading, baseball and basketball games. He always had time to play video games, cards and board games. He threw countless basketballs, baseballs, whiffle balls and footballs. No one enjoyed more or laughed louder at the performances of “The Lardner Show” put on by his nieces and nephews every holiday. He loved family get-togethers and never missed one.
Brian is survived by his sisters Martha and Barbara and his brothers Terence, Kevin, John (Bart), and Sean. He also leaves his brother-in-law Richard and his three sister-in-laws, Patricia, Carrie and Kyunghee. He also is survived by his nieces, Mary, Allison, Grace and Lily and his nephews Christopher, John (Jack) and Ben. He also leaves behind his beloved female cat, Bob, his housemate and companion. Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
