The Barrington High School girls basketball team improved to 6-2 with wins over Cranston East, Cranston West and Smithfield last week.
The Eagles defeated Cranston East 57-39 on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Cary Heterick and Liddy Hutchings led Eagles' scorers with 12 points each, while Elizabeth McConaghy added nine and Alex Marinelli finished with seven. Barrington held a 27-20 lead at the half and outscored the Bolts 30-19 in the second half.
Barrington defeated Cranston West 43-41 on Saturday, Jan. 13. Marinelli was the game's leading scorer with 24 points, including seven three-pointers. Andrea Kubas-Meyer added seven in the victory.
On Monday night, Barrington defeated Smithfield, 64-47. Olivia Middleton played well for the Eagles — she scored 21 points and had seven assists. Kubas-Meyer finished with 15 points.
Boys basketball
Barrington split against division opponents last week — the Eagles defeated Johnston 53-42 on Jan. 10, and lost to Narragansett 74-68 on Friday, Jan. 12.
William Rywolt led Barrington with 13 points against Johnston while Mike Coogan finished with 11 points.
Against Narragansett, Ben Silvia was the game's leading scorer with 26 points. Rywolt added 18 and Deven Connors had nine.
Barrington is 3-3 in the division.
Boys hockey
In Thursday’s night make-up game, Barrington beat the PCD/St. Raphaels/Wheeler co-op team, 5-3.
In the first period, Dominic Robidoux and Luke Rudman scored with assists from Josh Roy, Jake Andreozzi and Drew Sirmalis. PSW also scored. Both teams scored in the second period; Rudman scored an unassisted power play goal. In the third period, PSW scored a power play goal, then Barrington came back and scored two more goals. Dominic Robidoux scored with assists from Roy and Rudman, and Matt Bates scored an unassisted goal at the end of the game. Both goalies Steven Amaral and Matthew Hosey played in net and collectively stopped 15 shots.
Barrington defeated Ponaganset 4-0 on Sunday. In the first period, Rudman scored two goals. Assists came from Roy, Matt Spears, Sirmalis and Robidoux. In the second period, Spears scored. Jonny Fay and Owen Gordon had assists. In the final period, Roy scored with assists from Rudman and Bobby Ide. Hosey made 13 saves.
Swimming
The Barrington High School boys swim team defeated Hendricken 49-45 on Jan. 10. Ethan O'Connor won the 50 freestyle, while Aiden Lane won the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Harry Homans also played a key role in the victory, winning the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. Barrington's relay teams won. The 200 free relay team featured Gabe Arriagada, Ben Vesey, Ben Noonan and Homans, while the 200 medley team featured O'Connor, Noonan, Lane and William Kaon. Vesey, Lane, O'Connor and Homans won gold in the 400 free relay.
Indoor track
The Barrington High School boys track team finished the regular season with a 7-2 record after defeating Hope, 68-30, East Providence, 79-30, and Johnston, 94-4.
Barrington had a number of first place finishes, including Eliot Laidlaw in the 3,000; Walter Joachim-Delpoio in the 55 hurdles; William Cauley in the shot put; Jack Dunn in the weight throw; and Dominic Portelli in the 1,500.
At the Bayha Dwyer meet, Annika Kelly set a new school record in the shot put with a distance of 33 feet, 10.5 inches. She broke her old record of 32 feet, .75 inches. Kelly also finished second in the weight throw.
