Barrington residents report suspicious person going door-to-door

Police: Doorbell cameras capture footage

Posted

A Mathewson Road resident called Barrington Police on Tuesday, March 12 at about 5:30 p.m. to report that his doorbell camera had captured footage of a suspicious man outside his home. The resident said it appeared the man may have been trying to sell candy door-to-door.

A short time later, police received an additional phone call from a resident in that area who also saw the individual going door-to-door. That resident told police his doorbell camera showed the man approach a side door to the home and reach for the door handle. Police said the incident occurred at about 1:45 p.m.

That resident also alerted police to the fact that two of his neighbors were away on vacation, and he was concerned the man going door-to-door may have tried to access those homes.

Police checked those two houses — one of the homes was secured, said police, but a door had been opened at the other. Police were not sure if anyone had entered that home or taken anything. Police are trying to contact the people that own that home.
