Barrington Police responded to the intersection of the East Bay Bike Path and West Street on Monday, Aug. 2, after witnesses reported seeing a man brandishing a large knife in the area.
Police searched the bike path but could not locate the individual. Officers later tracked down the suspect inside Veterans Park — the 31-year-old Maple Avenue resident was holding the knife and a mason jar filled with vegetation.
The man told police he was collecting herbs, including Mullein, which he was planning to use to treat his ear infection.
Police told the man he could not walk around in public with a large knife — it had a 15-inch blade. Police seized the knife.
