Barrington Police: Resident reports confederate flag-waving dirt-bike rider; partying in Y’s buses?

Police issue Riverside man no trespass order

Barrington police responded to a variety of incidents last week:

• On Saturday, Jan. 23, a Western Avenue resident called police to report that a man had been riding a dirt bike around nearby roads, waving a confederate flag.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 19, an official from the Bayside YMCA told police it appeared that people had entered one of the Y’s buses parked in the lot. Pizza boxes and other trash was found inside the bus, and officials could smell the odor of marijuana. It also appeared someone had pried open the bus door, damaging it.

• Also on Jan. 19, a Brick Pond Drive resident filed a complaint about a vehicle parked on his property. The pickup truck had been there for a long period of time with its lights off, and when the resident arrived home, the truck drove off, leaving marks on the lawn. The resident followed the truck in his own vehicle, eventually confronting the driver in a Seekonk, Mass. convenience store parking lot. The Barrington man asked the truck’s driver what he had been doing in front of his home, but the man would not answer. Police later tracked down the truck’s driver, who said he had been parked in front of the Barrington home because it was a quiet place where he could have a cigarette. Police issued the man, a Riverside resident, a no trespassing notice for the Barrington property.

• Police investigated some vandalism at Nayatt School on Jan. 19 — the rims on the basketball hoops were bent, trash was strewn across the school yard and an outdoor tent had been moved. Police said strong winds had moved the tent and it was unclear who was responsible for the other issues.

• On Thursday, Jan. 21, a person called police after finding some belongings in a wooded area near the bike path at Haines Park. Police also located a tent farther into the woods, but believe that it was not currently occupied.
