Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia calls fall a tragic accident

Barrington Police said a Riverside woman died following a fall at a Barrington nail salon on Thursday, Aug. 13.

According to Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia, the incident occurred at about 2:10 p.m. Chief Correia said a 79-year-old Riverside resident was at the Aloha Nails on County Road waiting for her appointment when she went to use the restroom. Chief Correia said the woman opened the door and took a step into what she thought was the restroom, but it was actually the stairs to the basement. Chief Correia said the woman fell down a flight of 13 stairs.

People inside the salon called police and began performing CPR on the woman, police said. The police dispatch log stated that the woman suffered a head injury.

Chief Correia said the woman later passed away. He added that the medical examiner’s office was completing a full investigation. Police are also investigating, the chief said.

Chief Correia called the incident a tragic accident.

“It’s incredibly sad,” he said.
