Police said Bristol man had more than two ounces of marijuana, fireworks in vehicle

A single-vehicle accident on the Wampanoag Trail last week may lead to an arrest, said Barrington Police.

According to police, a 39-year-old Bristol man was driving north on the Trail on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at about 5 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a guardrail. Police located the vehicle — the guardrail was damaged.

Police said the driver was not injured but appeared to be a bit disheveled. Police called for a tow truck to remove the vehicle and officers conducted a search of the vehicle. Police said they found a glass jar filled with marijuana; it appeared to exceed the allowable amount of marijuana, police said. Police also found illegal fireworks.

Police said the Bristol man refused transportation and instead took the RIPTA bus home.

Police are still investigating and as of Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, it was not yet determined whether he would be charged. Police said the man had “potentially over two ounces of marijuana.”
