Barrington is kicking things up a notch, combining two events into one on Sunday, June 11. The traditional Barrington Arts Festival is joining with the newer Barrington Street Fair, for a double dose of things-to-do downtown. Both events run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Arts Festival is based on the Town Hall lawn. In addition to art displays, there will be a Professor Gizmo Printmaking Worhsop (10 a.m.-12 p.m.); Astronomy with Pete Peterson; a Bubble Show (11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.); face-painting (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and Kids Painting (12:30-2:30 p.m.)

The Street Fair takes place across the street on Wood Street. In addition to vendors lining the street, there will be an Ocean State Ballet performance (10:45 a.m.), live music from the Emmet Van Leer Quintet, and a Gypsy Caravan (1:30-3 p.m.).

There will be several food trucks at both locations.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
