Barrington High School teams eye postseason glory

Track and gymnastics state championships are this weekend

The Barrington High School boys and girls indoor track teams will compete in the state championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 18. 

The BHS boys indoor track team has already won division and class championships this season, and will look to make a clean sweep of postseason titles when it squares off against the other top teams in the state. The boys state meet begins at 9:30 a.m. at the PCTA, while the girls state meet will start at 1:30 p.m.

The BHS swim teams will travel to Roger Williams University this weekend to compete in the division championship meets. The Barrington boys compete on Saturday at 9 a.m., while the girls will swim on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Following the division championships, the Barrington swim teams will get a little time off before returning to the pool for the state championship meets. The Eagles will compete on Saturday, March 4 in the state swim championships at Brown University — the boys start at 9 a.m., while the girls swim at 2:30 p.m.

The Barrington High School gymnastics team will take its talent to the state championship on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Eagles will battle the other top teams in Rhode Island — the meet will be held at Rhode Island College at noon. 

The postseason kicks into gear this week for high school basketball teams. The BHS girls team earned a number four seed in the Division 1 tournament and will host fifth-seeded LaSalle on Monday night, Feb. 20. The game tips off at 5 p.m.

The Barrington High School boys team secured the number three seed and received a first-round bye for the Division 1 tournament. The Eagles will play on Tuesday, Feb. 21 against the winner of Cumberland vs. Mt. Pleasant. Barrington will host the game, which tips off at 6 p.m. The state open tournaments are scheduled to begin on March 3.

The Barrington High School wrestling team is preparing for the state championships, which will be held on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25. The competition will be held at PCTA — it begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. 

The boys ice hockey playoffs will begin on Monday, Feb. 27. The playoff pairings have not yet been announced. The girls ice hockey playoffs kick into gear on March 3. 

The Barrington High School cheer team will compete in the state championship on Saturday, March 11. The competition will be held at PCTA and it begins at noon.
