Boys and girls teams finish third at D-I meets

Both Barrington High School swim teams finished third at their respective Division I championship meets last weekend.

Next up for the BHS swim teams are the state championship meets on Saturday, March 2. 

At the Division I championship meet, the Barrington girls scored 285 points and finished behind first place Prout (356 points) and second place North Kingstown (329 points).

Barrington’s Kate McAdams, Michelle Xian, Reese Graveline and Molly DiGiacomo combined to win the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:42.96.

• 200 IM: 3. Graveline; 7. Ava Webster; 10. Vivian Wen; 11. McAdams

• 50 freestyle: 13. Natalie Zulker; 14. Sarah McManaman; 16. Maggie Pelkey

• 100 butterfly: 4. DiGiacomo; 9. Bell; 12. Wen; 13. Sadie Brown

• 100 freestyle: 9. Eve Tolley; 10. Isabelle Caldarone; 13. Zulker

• 500 freestyle: 4. Webster; 5. O’Neill; 9. Brown

• 100 backstroke: 7. Lara Tolley; 10. Jillian Frechette; 15. McManaman

• 100 breaststroke: 3. Xian; 13. Eve Tolley

• 400 freestyle relay: 4. Barrington (Caldarone, Wen, Bell, Garcia)

Boys results

The Barrington High School boys team scored 292 points and finished in third place at the Division I meet. Hendricken won the meet with 409 points and North Kingstown was second with 365 points. 

The Eagles’ 200 yard medley relay team of Keith Hartman, Justin Kuo, Aydin Duru and Ben McClelland finished in third place in the event.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
