Eagles aim to build upon last year’s 6-2 finish

The goals are simple for the Barrington High School girls indoor track team: work hard, improve individually, gain self-confidence, build a positive team culture, and have fun.

If that happens, said BHS Coach Ed Roskiewicz, the team should do well.

“If we can accomplish those objectives, we feel our athletes will perform well and allow the team to win our dual meets and place high in the class and state championships,” Coach Roskiewicz wrote in an email to the Barrington Times.

Last year’s team finished the regular season with a record of 6-2 and ran to a fourth place finish in the large school Class Championships. Coach Roskiewicz said this year’s team features about 50 talented student-athletes, with “a strong core of 11-12 individuals who qualified for the state championships last year.”

“Our strength is that we are a complete track and field team that will be able to put quality athletes in almost every event,” Coach Roskiewicz wrote.

This year’s team will be led by senior captains Kyle Keough, Helena Defanti and Emma Marvelli. Keough is a middle distance runner; Defanti competes in the jumps and sprints; and Marvelli is a thrower.

Coach Roskiewicz also listed some other students who are expected to contribute this season: Olivia Johnson (sprints and middle distance), Sophia Ford (jumps and sprints), Lily Cregan (throws), Frannie Johnson (jumps and pole vault), Jordan Roskiewicz (jumps and hurdles), Caroline Reznik, Indie Lamb, Sara Chang (all middle distance) and Sophie Gardos (distance).

“I’m excited to get started,” Coach Roskiewicz wrote.
