Barrington girls finish third at division championship meet

Eagles scored points in 11 of the 14 events

The Barrington High School girls indoor track team finished third at the Division Championship last week. 

The Eagles scored points in 11 of the 14 events contested. 

Barrington had a number of second-place finishers. The 4x800-meter relay team of Maeve Kelly, Ella Reagan, Faith Barrass and Sophie Gardos finished second with a time of 10:43.89. 

Evelyn Lefort finished second in the 3,000-meter race. The freshman finished just one-tenth of a second out of first place. Fellow BHS freshman Maura Gravina placed fourth in the event and Mia He was sixth. 

Indie Lamb continued her strong season with a second place finish in the 600-meter race. Caroline Reznik finished sixth in the same event. 

Barrington scored key points in the high jump — Helena Hyde placed second, while Jordan Roskiewicz was fifth and Allie Ford was seventh. 

Sophia Ford tied her personal best (and school record) in the long jump with a second place distance of 17 feet, 7.5 inches. Hyden finished sixth in the event. 

Roskiewicz clocked her best time of the year in the 55-meter hurdles and finished third, while Kitty Wang had a personal best and placed sixth. 

Lily Cregan finished third in the weight throw, and Natalie Antonio had her best throw of the year and finished eighth. 

Barrington’s 4x200-meter relay team of Roxanna Mohammadi, Kate Pearse, Roskiewicz and Sophia Ford finished fourth, while Barrington’s 4x400-meter relay team of Lamb, Pearse, Reagan and Reznik finished fifth. 

Pearse was the top freshman in the 300-meter race and finished sixth, and Sara Chang ran to a seventh place finish in the 1,000-meter race.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
