The Barrington High School football team will play against Cumberland in the Division II state championship game on Saturday, Nov. 18, at noon, at Cranston Stadium.
Team supporters are planning to cheer on the team during a special send-off on Saturday morning at the BHS parking lot at about 10 a.m. The public is invited to stop by and show their support for the Eagles as they depart for the title game.
The Eagles, who finished the regular season with a 6-0 record in the division and a 7-1 mark overall, have excelled on both sides of the ball this season. The offense is averaging more than 34 points per game, while the defense has limited opponents to less than 8 points per game.
BHS Coach Sandy Gorham credits some of the success to his team’s chemistry. Gorham said this year’s team works very hard in practice each day, and players celebrate each other’s successes. He said he has truly enjoyed the experience of coaching this year’s team.
Barrington will play an undefeated Cumberland team. The Clippers went 6-0 in Division IIA and 8-0 overall. They defeated Portsmouth and Burrillville in their quarterfinal and semifinal playoff games, respectively.
Tickets for this year’s state championship game should be purchased online.
