Anthony J. DiMatteo, age 92, lifelong resident of Barrington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. He was the loving husband of Rita N. (Primiano) DiMatteo to whom he was married for 69 years.
Anthony proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was owner/operator of Eveready Electric in Barrington for 40 years before retiring in 1987. A former RI State Representative, he was also a Barrington Town Councilman, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Active in his community, he was a Little League baseball coach as well as an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Mahle and Nancy Piffard; two sons, John DiMatteo and his wife Nicole and Joseph DiMatteo and his wife Anita; brothers, Rocco and Alphonse DiMatteo; sisters, Mary Chianese, Rose Lombardi and Irene Ventresca; and four grandchildren, Sam, Georgia, Ava and Rocco DiMatteo. He was the brother of the late Carmino DiMatteo and Anna Mansi.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 9 a.m. from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, 341 Maple Ave., Barrington.
