Found in Westport: One peach-faced lovebird

They're used to dealing with stray dogs, cats on walkabout and a loose cow now and then. But peach-faced lovebirds? Probably not as often. The story of the colorful bird discovered apparently abandoned at Gooseberry Island late last week has a happy ending, though, after a beach lover found it in a small portable cage and called the police department. Police said it's likely that the owners brought the bird to the beach for some R&R, but as they were packing up their gear, including chairs and the like, they forgot the small cage. Animal control officers took custody of the small songbird and the Westport Police Department put out a Facebook post asking for the owners to respond. Within a day or so, they did and happily went down to retrieve their lost pet.
