PORTSMOUTH — After stumbling in the first set, the Portsmouth High girls’ volleyball team switched a gear and ended up making easy work of East Greenwich in the Championship Division quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
The Patriots (13-6 overall, 7-3 in the league) beat the Avengers (12-7 and 8-2) by a score of 3-1 to advance to the semifinal round of the state playoffs to be played next week. They’ll play the winner of the match between top-seeded North Kingstown and No. 8 Classical, which was scheduled for Thursday night, Nov. 3.
The Patriots, who are undefeated at home this season, dropped the first set of the best-of-three match in the PHS field house, 24-26.
The next three sets weren’t close, however, with Portsmouth winning them by scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-13.
