PORTSMOUTH — A 70-year-old Fall River woman died Sunday due to injuries she sustained after the vehicle she was driving plowed into a Common Fence Point home, police said.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on April 2, Portsmouth police and firefighters responded to 1127 Anthony Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, they found that a vehicle had struck the residence, causing significant damage to both, the police department reported on its Facebook page.

“The operator sustained severe injuries and was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Newport Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries,” the statement read. “The operator was the lone occupant of the vehicle. The residence was occupied at the time of the incident, however none of the residents were injured.”

On Monday, police identified the deceased woman as Louise Lussier, 70, of Fall River.

Members of the Portsmouth Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and Detective Division were called to the scene for further investigation and preliminary determined that the vehicle had been traveling north on Anthony Road when it left the roadway and struck the side of the residence.

The accident remains under investigation, police said.
