Riverside wins softball outing, Martin takes baseball game

EAST PROVIDENCE — Pitcher's duels were the order of the day as the Martin and Riverside Middle School softball and baseball teams took to the new diamonds for their respective sports on the East Providence High School campus Tuesday afternoon, April 25, for one of their two regular meetings this spring.

Fittingly, the sides split their "Mayor's Cup" outings, each school winning one of the games. Martin took the baseball outing and Riverside the softball contest by the same 1-0 scores.

"We decided to make it a little bigger and play the game here," district athletic director Alex Butler said of the move of the games to the new EPHS sports complex. "The kids and parents loved it. It’s a chance to show the place off and let the future student-athletes see what it could look like for them."

The Riverside baseball and softball teams, respectively, usually play at the Riverside Rec complex adjacent to the school while the Martin teams play at nearby Pierce Field.

The 2023 Martin Middle School baseball roster includes: Will Haggerty, Max Correiro, Joshua Shanty, Blake Brun, Sean Smith, Brandon DiCecco, Sean Black, Lexington Garelli, Jamison Sydney, Caleb Neilson, Maxwell Pawlick, Wynn Rabar, Evan Provencher, Will Budnick, Maximilian Distefano, Landon Bliss, John Greene and Noah Lang.
