Power has been restored to much, but not all, of Warren, after a windstorm Sunday night into Monday knocked out power to 150,000 Bristol County National Grid customers and more than 490,000 across the state.

Many Warren residents saw the resumpton of service some time between 2 and 4 a.m. Tuesday. Prior to that, large sections of town from Water Street to Main, and in surrounding neighborhoods, were dark. Metacom Avenue was one of the few powered commercial areas in town Monday night and businesses there, including McDonalds and Burger King, were doing a booming business. Touisset was one of the first neighborhoods in town to see the resumption of power service Monday afternoon.

The Coffee Dpeot was open for business Tuesday morning, though several customers who were still without power stopped in to buy a hot cup of coffee. A Beach Street couple said they still had no power though all surrounding streets did.

“It always happens that way,” one said.
