Aspiring student chefs vie with their peers at Lincoln High

Posted

Students from the East Providence High School Career and Tech Center's Culinary Arts Department joined their peers from around the state in a food truck competition hosted by Lincoln High on Saturday, May 4.

The EPCTC Culinary program was one of 13 in the state to receive the trucks valued at $125,000 from the Rhode Island Department of Education.

Last Saturday, the EPCTC students gathered with eight other culinary programs for the friendly event. Each truck presented an item for tasting. East Providence's was a Grilled Pork Belly taco on a corn tortilla with asian slaw, gochujang glaze, avocado crema and crispy chicharrones. Over 300 people enjoyed all of the student prepared and presented food items.

Awards presented on the day included "best savory dish," which was won by Coventry High School who served a plate of Linguini Alfredo, pasta amatriciana & Pesto Focaccia with Prosciutto. The award for "best dessert" went to host Lincoln for its Strawberry Shortcake.
