The Weaver Library welcomes author Adam Braver, who will be speaking about his new book, “Misfit,” a novel focusing on the last weekend of Marilyn Monroe’s life. Author Ann Hood will join him afterwards for a discussion on writing historical fiction. Books by Braver and Hood will be available for purchase and signing.

Back to School Science Night @ Heritage State Park Visitors Center
Mad Science of Southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island hosts this third annual event that will turn a Fall River visitors center into a “mad science” laboratory for a night. Mad Science will have “edutaining” science demonstrations and hands-on activities for elementary school-age children and their parents. In addition to tables of managed and self-directed science activities, there will be a Mad Science show beginning at 6 p.m. No pre-registration is required.

The Barrington Public Library continues its nonpartisan series, “Take Six: The Big Issues of 2012,” with immigration scholar and lawyer Irene Scarf, who will discuss immigration policy in the United States. The series continues Thursday evening through Oct. 11.

This family bike event benefits Star Kids, a nonprofit that gives high-risk, low-income children a chance to escape a life of crime, disease and poverty for which they might otherwise be destined. There are two Ocean Drive Loops (seven and 15 miles) and a 30-mile course on Indian Avenue.
The George Hail Library’s monthly book-sharing group restarts after a summer hiatus. Instead of discussing one book in common, this group comes together to recommend books to each other. Share your favorite books, new or old, with fellow book-lovers, have a casual, lively conversation and enjoy hot coffee or tea.

International Coastal Cleanup @ Throughout Rhode Island
The Audubon Society of Rhode Island invites volunteers to head to the shore to not only clean up the trash, but also document each piece of trash picked up. A Country Day at Pardon Gray @ Pardon Gray Preserve
Event features pony rides, hay rides, entertainment, a craft tent, food grilled by the Tiverton Lions Club, home-baked pies with free Gray’s ice cream, face-painting, pumpkin-decorating, interactive displays by the Tiverton fire and police departments, nest box construction, kids’ craft tables, an antique tractor display, a tractor pull, farm animals to pet and more. Hosted by The Tiverton Land Trust, it’s presented as part of Rhode Island Land Trust Days.
