Imago Foundation for the Arts (IFA) will welcome ProvSlam, the longest running poetry slam and open mic venue in Rhode Island, to Imago Gallery, 36 Market Street, on Friday, April 26.
ProvSlam performers will be offering a free workshop for high school age East Bay youths from 5 – 6:30 p.m. followed by a community open mic and performance by ProvSlam at 7 p.m.
All are welcome to the open mic and performance by ProvSlam. The program is free for youth. Suggested donation for adults is $5. No one will be turned away.
The award-winning Providence Poetry Slam is an enduring cultural staple housed at AS220 in downtown Providence since 1992.
Lovingly known as ProvSlam, this volunteer-run endeavor serves as a community space to cherish transformative storytelling and performance. ProvSlam is one of the oldest and most respected poetry slam venues in the nation.
Over 30 years after it began, the ProvSlam stage continues to offer a platform for a diversity of voices to expose silenced narratives, engage with language and truth, and extend support to one another.
IFA is a non-profit organization run by artists for artists whose mission is to inspire creativity and promote art-making that enriches our communities.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
