Letter: First Community Connections Resource Fair a success

Posted

To the editor:

Thank you for making our first Community Connections Resource Fair a success. It started out as an idea with Pam Mirick to host a coffee to raise awareness about colon cancer, after the success of the coffee we talked about the idea of sharing more resources with the Bristol community.

Our department teamed up with Bristol's Health Equity Zone to pull together local organizations, town departments and Chef Courtney's monthly cooking demo to the fair. The response from the Bristol community was wonderful and the connections with local resources volunteering their time was outstanding.

We are very thankful to be a part of this community and to have the ability to bring so many valuable services together to better inform our residents of all Bristol has to offer. Thank you again to everyone involved and all of you who attended. We will definitely make this an annual event.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
