Column: Deadline and eligibility extended for student mini grants

Posted

The Bristol Municipal Career and Technical Academy (BMCTA) is happy to announce that teenagers who live in Bristol and are NOT attending either Mt Hope High School or Kickemuit Middle School ARE now able to enroll in all our planned summertime programs. This is in addition to all teenagers attending Mt. Hope High School and Kickemuit Middle School.

Our Career Explorers Mini-Grant program is open for enrollment through the end of May. The availability of these financial grants is in thanks to Bristol receiving funds from the Learn365 RI program of Governor McKee. We have $15,000 to distribute to applicants selected from those we receive. An individual could be awarded up to $750. Everything you need to know can be found at www.rogersfreelibrary.org/career-explorers. Please check it out.

We have also started the planning for our Career Exploration Field Trips. These are going to be schedule for some weekdays during the summer. We are attempting to learn the career occupations Bristol teenagers are interested in. If you are likely to encourage your teenager to go on a bus trip with peers to visit a business related to his/her interest, then please email me at cevans@rogersfreelibrary.org so I can learn more. This information will help us make the right choice about scheduling our visits.

There will be other activities this summer so if you would like to be kept informed, please let me know and I will add you to our Career Explorers email list.

I hope to hear from you and/or your teenager very soon. If you are interested in attending the next informational session, it is being held at Rogers Free Library this Saturday, May 11 staring at 11 a.m. Hope to see you then.
