Police charge Barrington man with possession of ghost gun

Police: East Spring Street resident also had second unlicensed firearm

A 50-year-old Barrington man is facing multiple firearms charges after he was allegedly found in possession of a loaded “ghost gun” and a second unlicensed firearm.

On Monday, Feb. 19, Barrington Police charged Hongnian Guo, 50, of 81 East Spring St., with possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a ghost gun or undetectable firearm, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.

Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department contacted Barrington PD at about 5 p.m. on Feb. 19 and requested assistance in serving a no contact order and a vacate order to Guo. The orders stemmed from a prior complaint.

While serving Guo with the two orders, Barrington Police officers received information of a possible firearm inside the home.

A short time later, police officers allegedly seized a loaded 9mm “Ghost Gun” pistol from the residence. The firearm was equipped with a 27-round large capacity magazine, police said.

Police obtained a warrant for Guo and he was arrested at about 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19.

Police said Guo was also in possession of a loaded Sig Sauer .45 caliber pistol, and more than $100,000 in US currency.

Police transported Guo to the Barrington Public Safety Building, where he was booked.

“Guo was transported to RI Hospital for a medical condition (unrelated to his arrest) where he was eventually arraigned by a bail commissioner and turned over to the care and custody of the RI Sheriff’s Department,” stated a press release from the Barrington Police Department. “Guo will appear before a district court judge at a future date.”

A day after arresting Guo, Barrington Police petitioned the Rhode Island Superior Court and obtained an Extreme Risk Protection Order (Red Flag Law) and executed a search warrant at the East Spring Street location.

“The Barrington Police Department’s Detective Bureau is still investigating the incident,” stated the press release.

Barrington Police said Guo had no prior criminal record, but he did have prior contact with police.
