Barrington Police charged two 16-year-old Barrington boys following an incident late Monday night, April 15. 

Police officers responded to the Kent Street tennis courts after receiving a phone call at about 10:45 p.m. An 18-year-old Barrington resident told police someone had damaged his vehicle that night, while it was parked near the tennis courts. 

The 18-year-old Barrington resident was with two 18-year-old Bristol residents — all three said they had been in a makeshift fort in the woods near the tennis courts earlier that night when two 16-year-old Barrington boys approached them and asked if they had seen a bottle of vodka near the fort. 

Police said the 18-year-olds denied any knowledge of the vodka, and reported that the 16-year-olds seemed to get upset upon hearing that news.

Later that night, the 18-year-olds returned to the vehicle and discovered it had been vandalized. Police said a dashboard camera inside the vehicle captured footage of the two 16-year-olds jumping on the hood and damaging other parts of the vehicle. Police also found a broken hockey stick near the vehicle. 

Based on the video evidence, police charged the two 16-year-olds with vandalism and disorderly conduct. One of the 16-year-olds also faces an additional charge of obstructing an officer in execution of duty — police said the teenager lied about his involvement in the incident.  

Police later went into the woods off Kent Street and located the fort in the woods. Police said they found a number of empty alcohol containers near the fort.
