Warren man charged after early morning motorcycle wreck

A Warren is facing multiple charges after he lost control of his motorcycle at high speed early Sunday morning.

Police were called to Laurel Lane just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday by residents who heard Carlo Ferreira, 36, of 51 Laurel Lane, lose control of his 1999 Kawasaki near the intersection of Laurel Lane and Overhill Road. Police who responded spoke to witnesses, who told police that Mr. Ferreira had been ejected into a wooden area adjacent to the crash scene. There, Mr. Ferreira complained to police of leg pain and said he thought he broke his leg. An officer noted that Mr. Ferreira smelled of alcohol and had watery, bloodshot eyes.

Warren rescue crews extricated Mr. Ferreira from the woods, and police said he refused a sobriety test before being transported to Rhode Island Hospital. There, he also refused to submit to alcohol testing. As a result police charged him with refusal to submit to a breath test, leaving the lane of travel and operating a motor vehicle without proof of insurance. He is due in court on Monday, Sept. 11.

While at the scene, Officer Don Lanoie noted that Mr. Ferreira left approximately 50 feet of skid marks at the intersection of Laurel and Overhill. Mr. Ferreira told him that he was unable to negotiate a slight east turn at the spot.
