Mt. Hope students design, build, decorate and deliver 'wish house' for local girl

Posted

Last Friday, students and teachers from Mt. Hope High School attended the Rhode Island Home Show to present a “Wish House” that they’d been working on for months. They created this “Wish House” specifically for Skylar, a local little girl with a neuroblastoma, modeled after Disney’s “Encanto”, one of Skylar’s favorite movies.

With the theme of “Encanto” in mind, students in the high school’s engineering CTE program got to work on designing Skylar’s playhouse. Students in the construction CTE program then took the computer-generated design and built it. After it was built, students in the business finance CTE program furnished the inside of the playhouse to match the theme. To finish it off, the school’s art students painted the entire playhouse, including small details like flowers, house tiles, bricks, and more.

Once it was nearly completed, the playhouse was transported to the Rhode Island Convention Center where it was added to a “neighborhood” of other “Wish Houses” made by other schools from across the state.

“This couldn’t have been done without all the hard work from the engineering, construction, business and finance, and art students of Mt. Hope High School, and without the guidance of Mt. Hope teachers Zach Fenster, Ryan Garrity, and Lauren Enjetit,” a press release announcing the donation stated. “MHHS also wants to give a special thank you to the Rhode Island Builders Association and Rosemary's Wish Kids, Inc. for helping these classes to fund this amazing project.”
