Barrington firefighters pulled a body out of Brickyard Pond on Sunday morning, Aug. 20.
According to police, there had been a call at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning for a missing person after someone walking inside Veterans Park near Brickyard Pond found a shirt, cell phone, flip-flops, cash and a bike left the edge of the pond.
A police officer responded to the park and began searching the woods for the owner of the items. Just moments later, police received a 911 phone call from some men fishing on the pond who spotted a body partially submerged near one of the islands on Brickyard.
Police called the fire department, which launched its boat from Legion Way. Firefighters pulled the body from the water; the apparent drowning victim was later identified as 46-year-old Warren resident Joseph E. Tavares.
"There were no signs of foul play," said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross, adding "An autopsy will be conducted."
There are multiple "No Swimming" signs posted around Brickyard Pond.
