A 19-year-old Tiverton man is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital after he lost control of his car, rolled it for more than 120 yards and was ejected just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Owen Sullivan, no address given, of Tiverton, was traveling south on Fish Road when he lost control of his 2004 Hyundai Tiburon and crossed into the northbound lean near Bears Den Road. His vehicle left the road and struck a large rock, which caused it to become airborne, police said. The car rolled for more than 120 yards before coming to rest on Fish Road just south of Hooper Street, where it caught fire. Police said it appears that speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Police found Sullivan near the burning vehicle, pulled him clear and provided first aid until medical help arrived.

Tiverton detectives and members of the accident reconstruction team responded to the scene. While they believe speed was a contributing factor, the accident remains under investigation.
