Terrific spring for Tiverton softball all stars

Posted

It has been a terrific spring for the Tiverton girls softball all star teams as two of the teams won the District 2 championship and a third is in prime position to win the title this week.

“Our coaches deserve a lot of the credit on the successes we have realized this season,” said Tiverton Little League president Mike DeCotis. “They work tirelessly to teach the fundamentals.”

“Our players have marketedly improved over last year,” he said. “The girls recruit their family and friends and bring new players into the fold and even the new players are making great strides.”

12U and 16U teams win district titles

Both the 12U and 16U softball all-star teams won their District 2 titles and are playing for state championships. The 12U all-stars beat Barrington 8-3 to win the title on June 28. They will play in the state tournament hosted by Warwick North LL at 80 Bend St., on July 10-14.

The 16U all-stars beat Portsmouth 3-1 to win the District 2 title on June 29. They will play Warwick North in a best of 3 series to determine the state champion at Davidson Field in Portsmouth on July 10-14.

The Tiverton 10U all-star team will play in the District 2 championship after beating Barrington 12-2 on July 5 and East Providence 17-2 on July 6. They will play the winner of those two teams on Tuesday, July 11, at 5:45 p.m. at the Tiverton Town Farm field.
