Paull: Nonsensical ‘scoring system’ speaks volumes

Posted

Recently the Tiverton Taxpayers Association, under the guise of the Tiverton Town Republican Committee that they recently took over, sent out a mailer to registered Republicans. Within the mailer is a "scoring system" designed by Mr. Rogers. Shockingly the top seven are endorsed TTA/TRC members! But don't take this survey too lightly as it actually has meaning. You see, the next two highest vote getters have never held a substantial public office. So to score them at all is just plain baffling and comical and speaks volumes of their "methodology" in coming up with such a "system".

As to the charter amendment questions on the ballot, of the 8 local questions, 3 of them are from the CRC as proposed and 2 are CRC based with additional or slightly changed language. So why do they ask you to "vote no on all charter changes"?

We need to elect a mix of folks that have experience and breath new life into our community. Please support myself, Joseph Perry, Patricia Hilton and Denise deMedeiros for Town Council. Please support Michael DeCotis, Jennifer Joslyn, Deborah Janick and Stuart Gilfillen for Budget Committee.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
