A man is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital after the car in which he was a passenger rolled over on Stone Church Road in Tiverton just before 6:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve.

Police said the man, 27, had to be extricated from the car with the Jaws of Life and was transported to the hospital by a MedFlight helicopter. The driver, a 25-year-old man who has not been identified, was able to get out of the car on his own and sustained minor injuries.

Police said the car was driving north on Stone Church when it left the road for unknown reasons. The accident remains under investigation by the department’s accident reconstruction team and detectives’ division.
