To the editor:

Dennis August Almeida wrote a letter to the editor mentioning that a visiting friend “commented on how shabby the Town Hall looked, with its fading and peeling paint and shopworn boards in various states of disrepair.” He concluded that the town needed a change of attitude and a change in its council majority.

So the Little Compton Town Council now makes decisions based on a resident’s friend’s assessment of the town hall?

Town Council member James Mataronas voiced support — “It seems like interest rates are starting to creep up a little bit so this would be a good time to do it.”  Well, ok.  Let’s all go along with Mr. ‘Nostra’ Mataronas’ prediction of future events.  Who came up with this number?  Did the town council already give the job to someone for one million dollars?

So in his conclusion it’s now determined that we need to spend $1 million on the Town Hall and the parking lot.  Boy, that is just terrific!  But yet if I tell you that the town snowplow knocked down my mailbox clearing West Main Road they would laugh in my face when I ask them for $40 dollars to repair it.  

Replace the weathered boards, and paint it.  That’s what I can do at my home for thirty thousand dollars.  So why don’t you?  Next time I donate money to the food bank maybe I should think twice about it and go buy some paint.
