Well, whoever is in charge of the weather is certainly confused. All summer I never turned on my new AC, now that it is autumn I don’t know what I would do without it. Apple growers in Massachusetts are planting new trees which do well further south, the evenings are still noisy with katydids and my little fish pool has pollywogs and baby frogs instead of fish.
As usual the Back 40 is yellow with three kinds of goldenrod (and NO they do not cause hay fever) and closer to the house, tumbling over a bamboo arch, is a mass of our white, sweet scented native clematis, also known by the charming name of Virgin’s Bower. You will see it everywhere and once it finishes blooming, fluffy little seed pods continue to delight.
A violent, purple Butterfly Bush is still attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. Keep those hummer feeders full unless, like me, you have a miserable raccoon who thought they were for her and tumbles the feeders to the ground.
Next month its pumpkin time and frosts. My most unfavorite time as nothing is going to keep winter at bay.
