To the editor:
In his letter to the Aug. 25 edition of The Post, Matthew Fletcher uses the faulty reasoning so popular to the NRA, Fox News, et. al., to bolster their argument that allowing the ending of the assault weapons ban in 2003 was justified.
While citing two narratives that 1) the assault rifle is the most popular rifle sold today and 2) during the assault weapons ban the violent crime rate did not drop is what this writer would call a massive stretch.
Rather than getting to a never ending argument over this issue, please answer one question; Since 2003, many people have been killed with an assault weapon, while to my knowledge no lives have been saved because someone with such a weapon stepped in to save the day. Please don’t cite mental health problems as the true culprit?
If there were no assault weapons available, these deaths would never have happened.
End of story.
