TIVERTON — Fort Barton Elementary School has been recognized as one of the 28 commended schools in Rhode Island through the Rhode Island Department of Education.

Better still, Fort Barton is among only nine schools state-wide to have achieved commended stats for three consecutive years.

“Fort Barton's success is a result of Mrs. Suzette Wordell and her staff's commitment to ensuring that every child maximizes their learning potential,” said Superintendent of Schools William Rearick. “Mrs. Wordell and her staff use various data points when they develop their lesson plans.  Data points are another name for assessment results.

Schools classified as commended are deemed the highest performing schools in the state by the state Department of Education.
