Little Compton resident was Navy veteran

Charles C. Pratt, Jr., 87, of Little Compton, RI (formerly of Rockland, Massachusetts) peacefully passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021. He was the husband of Marcia L. (Almy) Pratt for over 65 years.

Born in Brighton, MA, son of the late Charles C. Pratt, Sr. and Audrey (Hussey) Pratt, he graduated high school in 1952. In January 1954, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. He was discharged in November 1957 and completed his electrical apprenticeship. He furthered his trade to become a journeyman and then a master electrician.

After several years working for Halliday Lithograph, in 1966 he started his own business, retiring in 1996. He was also the wire inspector for the Town of Rockland. He was active in the Jaycees, played tennis, golf, and bowling. His love for singing was on full display as a member of a local group named “The People Next Door.” He and Marcia traveled to Europe as well as many places within the US.

He is survived by Marcia; sister Larraine Martlock; children: Stephen, Robert, Dennis, Laurie (Pratt) Doherty and their spouses; six grandsons and two great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his sister Norma Macri.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
