EAST PROVIDENCE — Officers arrested a Pawtucket man Tuesday, Nov. 17, aiding an East Providence Police Department investigation along with one being conducted by a Florida law enforcement agency.
(Updated, Nov. 19, 3:20 p.m.) Derrick Mauricio, 38, was taken into custody by the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force. The East Providence Police Department amended its initial public statement on the matter, noting the arrest warrant was for four counts of First Degree Child Molestation and three counts of Second Degree Child Molestation, not sexual assault charges as in the initial release issued Tuesday, Nov. 17.
In August of this year, members of the EPPD Detective Division were contacted by Boynton Beach Police Department about a juvenile female who had reported being sexually assaulted in the Boynton Beach PD jurisdiction.
During the course of the Boynton Beach investigation, the victim disclosed to police that the same suspect continually sexually assaulted her from 2013 to 2017 while she lived with her mother in Rhode Island.
EPPD Detectives interviewed the victim in Florida with the assistance of the BBPD. During the interview, sufficient evidence was obtained for an arrest warrant to be issued locally.
Boynton Beach police continue their investigation into sexual assaults which occurred in their jurisdiction. There is the possibility that there may be other victims within Rhode Island and Florida.
If you believe you are a victim of an assault by this suspect please contact the East Providence Police Detective Division at 401-435-7600.
The incident is still being investigated. No further information was released.
