‘The Highwaymen’ at Four Corners

Posted

The Four Corners Arts Center is hosting a night of storytelling and song, “The Highwaymen: Songs & Stories by Matt York,” this Saturday, Oct. 10. The performance begins at 7 p.m.

Longtime New England musician/author Matt York will perform the songs of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings and tell stories of their careers. He will be accompanied by fiddler Angelica Vendetti. The four songwriting legends joined forces in the 1980s to form the country supergroup, The Highwaymen. However, prior to that, they had each established themselves as stars, and their careers intersected many times since the 1960s.

York has twice been nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Country Artist, and he recently released his second book, “The Words and Wisdom of Willie Nelson.”

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
