Stella Blues evicted in Warren

Posted

Stella Blues, one of the mainstays of Warren’s downtown restaurant scene for the past 10-plus years, has closed its doors at 50 Miller St. amid eviction proceedings and the impending loss of its victualing license.

Property owner Paul Bullock recently initiated eviction proceedings against Stella Blues Inc. in Sixth Division District Court, complaining that the restaurant owed him thousands in back rent. And citing similar concerns, the Warren Town Council voted last Tuesday to not renew the restaurant’s BV Victualing license when it expires next month; councilors and Warren Town Solicitor cited the issue with Mr. Bullock, as well as other financial problems, as the reason for not renewing the license. However, Warren Town Manager Thomas Gordon said the principals of Stella Blues Inc. can re-apply if they wish.

It is unclear whether that will happen. The restaurant’s telephone has been disconnected, and a hand-written note taped inside the main entrance states that the restaurant is temporarily closed due to family illness.

Next to that note is another: A notice of eviction, posted Wednesday, Nov. 19, that notes a judgment against the restaurant for $5,182.26 and $170 in court costs.
