Six individuals at the Kickemuit Middle School, Mt. Hope High School and Guiteras School tested positive for the Covid-19 virus this week, Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Brice reported Thursday. As a result, quarantines have been put in place to try to prevent the spread of the virus.
Dr. Brice did not say if the six positive cases were among students, teachers or staff. He said the district is following state Department of Health quarantine and contact tracing protocols. Once contact tracing is completed, he wrote in a letter to parents, "additional actions may be implemented."
In announcing the positive cases, Dr. Brice implored parents to make sure that their children are adhering to social distancing and mask-wearing practices:
"Multiple school districts in the East Bay have recently been informed of unsupervised community activities where students were not wearing masks or maintaining social distancing," he wrote. "These actions have led to multiple positive Covid-19 cases. Please speak with your children about the importance of consistently and continuously following Covid-19 mitigation strategies so they can remain safe, healthy, and school can continue as normally as possible."
